Having already succeeded with a wide range of Nike products, Virgil Abloh has seemingly announced his next project with the Swoosh—a collaborative effort with tennis icon Serena Williams.
While details are scarce, the collab was hinted at with a graphic posted on Instagram today. The image, printed in standard Off-White font, suggests the project is called "Queen." Additionally, Off-white tagged NikeCourt in its Instagram story.
The timing of this teaser is interesting, as the U.S. Open is set to begin on Aug. 27 in New York. Perhaps Williams will compete in an Off-White version of her Flare tennis model. We may even see her dressed in head-to-toe Off-White gear. All of this is pure speculation at the moment.
We'll continue to follow this story with new developments as they're revealed.
UPDATE (08/13): A day after Virgil Abloh teased a Nike collaboration with tennis phenom Serena Williams, Nike has officially announced the upcoming project that will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Open. The Abloh-designed "Queen" Collection will include black and white tennis dresses emblazoned with the designer's signature Helvetica branding, a bomber jacket, bag, silver PE of the NikeCourt Flare 2, and versions of Abloh's Blazer and Air Max 97 with gradient midsoles.
"With Serena, we have one of our generation's most powerful, inspiring athletes as the muse," said Abloh. "I was trying to embody her spirit and bring something compelling and fresh to tennis."
There is still no word of an official release date or pricing for the collection, however Sole Collector has confirmed that the collection's NikeCourt Flare 2 is promotional item only.
